For the second game in a row, the younger players within the Arsenal squad have stepped up in a big way and produced a result for Arsenal. Pepe notches one home from the penalty spot and Ceballos scores the winner, but quality performances from Joe Willock, Kieran Tierney, Nicolas Pepe, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and even Eddie Nketiah when he was on are a bright spot for fans.
In his post game interview, Arteta spoke a bit about the younger players saying, “they are evolving and really willing. Lots of personality to play”.
It’s a very welcome and positive sign for an Arsenal squad destined to be heavily reliant on their influences in the coming years. Being able to count on them consistently and supplement them with a few veterans to guide them and a few players in their prime to take over games would be huge for their success. That goal also makes their transfer window much more realistic. The idea of buying one or two stars instead of needing 4-6 gaps filled will make a world of difference.
Project Restart and the completion of this season is a huge opportunity for Arteta to test these young players and see what they are capable of doing. Consistency is always an issue when it comes to young players, but two games in a row Arsenal fans will feel impressed with their contributions.
All eyes on this trend to continue through the compact schedule. Full write up on my thoughts and takeaways to come later. Enjoy the win!
